Rooms near Furness General Hospital

Plan the complete journey from the room you are considering to your department or confirmed workplace entrance, at the times you will actually travel. The houses are quiet, the rooms are furnished properly, and every bill is in the price — which, after a night shift, is the difference that matters.

Rotation dates

These are published national training dates, not an FGH employment or induction schedule. Choose the row for your three-, four- or six-month placement pattern, then confirm your own placement, offer and local reporting instructions. Shadowing or induction can start earlier:

Every date below is taken from the organisation's own published page, linked in the last column, with its actual check date shown per row. Last full calendar review 2026-10-08. Next full check 2026-12-01 (quarterly, alongside the Furness Room Rent Index re-count). Where a source gives only a month, we show only a month.

Local trust arrangements can vary. These dates do not establish when a particular person starts work or needs a room. The full Furness employer intake calendar also covers the college and university terms.

Getting to FGH without a car

The hospital's own travel information confirms that Stagecoach route 6 serves FGH. The hospital is approximately two miles from Barrow railway station, so include the onward journey when planning a train commute. Check the bus journey planner for your shift start and finish, including late evenings and Sundays, and confirm with your employer which entrance to use.

Transport guidance reviewed 15 October 2026 against the hospital and operator pages. Check current services and employer parking arrangements for your travel date; no fixed room-to-work time is promised.

Who we've housed

Nurses on international recruitment, junior doctors on rotation, allied health professionals, hospital contractors and student nurses on placement. If you're joining UHMBT from outside the area, the moving guide covers the practical side: areas, costs, transport and what to expect.

Studying as well as working? Our Furness College and University of Cumbria page covers rooms for students, apprentices and staff at both.

Dalton or Barrow for hospital staff?

Dalton is a small market town; Barrow has the shops, the station and the bigger night out. Compare both room-to-department journeys, including the return trip, before deciding which fits your working hours. Our comparison is honest about both.

Common questions

How far are your rooms from Furness General Hospital?
Compare the complete journey from the particular room to your department or workplace entrance, at your actual shift times. For buses, confirm that the individual journey calls at Furness General Hospital; for driving, check staff parking arrangements and include the final walk. The town name alone does not establish a travel time.
Does the hospital have staff accommodation?
Ask your recruiting team or placement organiser whether any employer-arranged accommodation is offered for your particular role, who is eligible, what it costs and how long it lasts. Confirm the arrangements directly before relying on them when choosing where to live.
Are the houses suitable for night shifts?
Yes. Our tenants all work, many on shifts, and the houses are quiet during the day. Every room has blackout-friendly curtains, a double bed and its own TV.
Can I rent for a short rotation?
We let on an assured periodic tenancy with two months' notice, so a four- or six-month rotation works. Tell us the dates and we'll be straight about whether we can help.
Do you take student nurses?
Yes, working students on placement at FGH or at the University of Cumbria's Barrow campus are welcome; we still take references and a right-to-rent check.
